FAQ

WHO IS THIS COURSE SUITABLE FOR?
This course is suitable for healthcare professionals beginning their pathway in ear care or those looking to develop and formalise their aural impression skills. It is designed for clinicians who need to carry out impression taking safely, accurately, and with sound clinical judgement under appropriate supervision.
WHAT WILL I LEARN ON THE COURSE?
You will learn how to carry out safe and effective aural impression taking, including pre- and post-procedure otoscopy checks, recognition of contraindications and red flags, and appropriate referral decision-making. The course also covers infection control, consent, patient preparation, and safe impression techniques, providing both practical skill and clinical context.
IS THE COURSE PRACTICAL OR THEORY-BASED?
The course combines focused theory teaching with supervised, hands-on practical training. Knowledge is built first, followed by trainer demonstration, supervised practice, and formal observation assessment. This ensures delegates develop real clinical competence rather than theoretical knowledge alone.
DO I NEED OTOSCOPY EXPERIENCE?
As aural impression taking requires internal ear assessment, delegates should be competent in otoscopy and currently performing it in practice. Those without this should complete an ear anatomy and otoscopy course prior to attending.
HOW IS COMPETENCE ASSESSED?
Competence is assessed through direct observation during supervised aural impression procedures. Delegates receive individual performance feedback and complete structured documentation exercises, including clinical note writing and escalation decisions. Each delegate is observed and coached to ensure safe, consistent impression technique.
